For Foundations

Partnering for Sustainable Infrastructure and Systems Change

Large-scale environmental challenges require more than temporary fixes; they demand robust infrastructure and systemic, long-term development. National CleanUp Day provides foundations with a unique opportunity to invest in scalable environmental solutions, data-driven waste management, and nationwide community mobilization.

By shifting from one-day volunteer events to institutionalized, tech-enabled environmental networks, we can build a cleaner, more resilient future.

Strategic Investment Pillars for Foundations

To build lasting infrastructure and drive systemic development, National CleanUp Day prioritizes three core strategic pillars. Foundations can choose to seed, scale, or fully anchor these long-term initiatives:

1. Tech & Data Infrastructure (The National CleanUp Map & Analytics Platform)

  • Geospatial Litter Mapping: Developing and scaling open-source, GIS-mapped tracking software that allows local municipalities and volunteer groups to log waste density, hot spots, and cleanup progress in real time.

  • Predictive Data Analytics: Utilizing machine learning to predict illegal dumping patterns, helping local governments allocate waste management resources more effectively.

  • Systemic Benefit: Provides corporate partners, municipal leaders, and environmental researchers with the standardized data infrastructure needed to measure long-term waste reduction trends across the United States.

2. Localized Capacity Building & Network Development

  • Municipal & Non-Profit Toolkits: Financing the creation and distribution of operational blueprints, safety gear, and regulatory navigation guides for grassroots organizations and city governments.

  • The Ambassador Program: Structuring a nationwide network of regional coordinators who act as localized infrastructure nodes, ensuring continuous, year-round environmental maintenance rather than a single annual event.

  • Systemic Benefit: Decentralizes environmental stewardship by equipping hundreds of local communities with the institutional knowledge and physical assets required to maintain autonomous operations.

  • Cleanup Plus™ transforms traditional one-day cleanups into lasting community investments by providing micro-grants of $500+ to fund localized resident outreach and permanent neighborhood improvements. Under this model, cleanups serve as the entry point for deep, hyper-local engagement that leaves behind tangible assets like native plantings, youth stewardship programs, or revitalized community spaces.

3. Circular Economy & Supply Chain Integration

  • Waste-to-Resource Pipelines: Building structural partnerships with recycling facilities, upcycling manufacturers, and waste management corporations to divert collected litter away from landfills and back into the circular economy.

  • Upstream Policy Data: Using collected cleanup data to track the most prevalent types of single-use plastics and packaging, providing foundations and advocacy groups with empirical data to support upstream legislative reform.

  • Systemic Benefit: Links grassroots civic action directly to industrial supply chain solutions, transforming environmental debris into valuable economic resources.

Funding Models & Partnership Pathways

We invite foundations to collaborate through flexible, high-impact investment structures designed to maximize systemic returns:

  • Capacity Building Grants: General operating support aimed at upgrading our core technology stack, hiring regional program managers, and expanding institutional partnerships.

  • Programmatic Seeding: Target-directed funding to launch the National CleanUp Infrastructure Fund, which directly provides hardware, waste receptacles, and digital tools to historically underserved or high-litter municipalities.

  • Matching & Leveraged Funds: Co-investment structures where foundation capital matches corporate sponsorships, doubling the operational capacity of nationwide regional campaigns.

Advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Our systemic approach directly advances several global benchmarks for long-term development:

  • SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): Reducing the adverse environmental impact of cities by improving municipal waste management infrastructure.

  • SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): Collecting empirical data to reduce plastic waste and promote circular economy integration.

  • SDG 14 & 15 (Life Below Water / Life on Land): Preventing mismanaged waste from entering terrestrial ecosystems, national parks, coastlines, and marine environments.
