Cleanup Plus™
Cleanup Plus: Transforming One-Day Events into Permanent Investments
A traditional cleanup removes the litter, but what happens the next day?
Cleanup Plus transforms traditional one-day cleanups into lasting community investments by providing micro-grants of $500+ to fund localized resident outreach and permanent neighborhood improvements.
Under this model, the act of picking up trash is just the beginning. The cleanup serves as the entry point for deep, hyper-local engagement that leaves behind tangible community assets. We bridge the gap between temporary civic action and permanent neighborhood revitalization.
How the Model Works
We believe the people who clean a neighborhood should have the resources to improve it. The Cleanup Plus framework operates in three distinct phases:
The Entry Point: A local neighborhood association, youth group, or grassroots nonprofit organizes a standardized cleanup event using National CleanUp's free mapping and data infrastructure.
The Micro-Grant: Qualifying local groups receive a localized micro-grant of $500 or more to invest directly back into the specific footprint they just cleaned.
The Lasting Asset: The funds are deployed to build permanent infrastructure, deter future littering, and foster a long-term sense of community ownership.
What Does Cleanup Plus Fund?
Micro-grants are designed to be flexible, addressing the specific, hyper-local needs of a community. Grants have been used to fund tangible assets, including:
Urban Greening: Purchasing native plantings, community garden supplies, and street trees to beautify reclaimed spaces.
Youth Stewardship Programs: Funding stipends, educational materials, and safety gear for ongoing youth environmental leadership programs.
Revitalized Community Spaces: Installing park benches, permanent public trash receptacles, or lighting to make cleared areas safe and welcoming.
Resident Outreach: Funding the distribution of localized flyers, neighborhood block parties, and educational resources to sustain community pride and prevent future illegal dumping.
Two Ways to Get Involved
For Foundations & Corporate Sponsors: Seed a Community
Systemic change requires localized funding. By underwriting a block of Cleanup Plus micro-grants, your foundation or corporation directly finances tangible, verifiable neighborhood improvements across the country. You provide the capital; we manage the vetting, distribution, and data reporting.
For Nonprofits & Grassroots Leaders: Apply for a Grant
Are you already organizing cleanups in a neighborhood that needs deeper investment? If your group is ready to take the next step from litter removal to permanent revitalization, we want to help fund your vision.
